Captain Ron Hamlin, inducted into the Big Game Room Hall of Fame
Ron Hamlin’s devotion to the sport of Big Game Fishing along with his conservation and education efforts has earned him the 2007 Miami International Boat Show Big Game Room Fishing Hall of Fame award.
Capt. Ron Hamlin, 63, who caught Venezuela's first thousand pound blue marlin and whose innovations like perfecting wind-on leaders, formaldehyde-baits, pitch-bait techniques and popularizing circle hooks for billfish have influenced billfishing for more than 40 years, is the Born in Baltimore, he moved to the West Palm Beach area in the early 50s, where he mentored under fishermen such as Capt. Ken Lyman and famed boating innovator John Rybovich of Rybovich and Sons, who he credits for making him, understand the importance of billfish conservation.
Since then, Hamlin has been a fishing pioneer throughout the Americas. One of the first Americans to take a boat to Venezuela and fish La Guaira Bank, for the past 10 years he has been fishing the Pacific coast of Guatemala where he recently broke his own world release record with 2,809 Pacific billfish for the year Nov. 1, 2005 through Oct. 31, 2006. He credits the high totals to the use of circle hooks, which he says have greatly improved his CUPE or catch per unit effort.
Please come and celebrate with Ron at a reception in his honor on Thursday, February 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the Big Game Room Seminar Stage.
